THE PROJECT

Engineered to

run hot

every day

Hot yoga only works if the building can survive it. Sustained heat and heavy humidity, six or seven days a week, are exactly the conditions most commercial construction is built to resist, not sustain. Insense Yoga Studio meant converting roughly 1,000 square feet of existing one-story commercial space in Mundelein into a practice space that could take that punishment indefinitely, without the building failing behind the walls.

Integro worked with the design team from schematic design, spearheading the building science behind hot yoga. The practice space runs on its own dedicated rooftop HVAC unit, isolated from the rest of the tenant space, because a room meant to hold heat and humidity at levels that would damage a typical office needs mechanical systems built for that specific job, not shared systems asked to compromise.

Every rough and finish material in the scope was selected against one standard: moisture. Heat and humidity that challenge a body are just as hard on framing, drywall, and flooring. We worked alongside the engineering team with a core belief that a studio that can't survive its own conditions past the first year’s warranty isn't finished.

What clients experience is the other half of the work: warm charcoal walls, arched mirror niches lit from behind, industrial pendant fixtures over the practice floor, a faux fireplace at the reception wall, custom fabricated glass assemblies. A boutique hospitality experience, built on top of a building engineered to sustain the exact conditions that immersion demands.

This is Care Economy | Wellness work: a studio built around a physical experience that stresses both the body and the building, executed with the same discipline Integro brings to any occupied, performance-critical space. The design is what a member sees. The engineering underneath it is why the studio still works in year five.
